Hodie/Today on Earth was commissioned by Garrison Keillor and A Prairie Home Companion in 2012.  It was premiered on "A Prairie Home Companion" by the DiGiallonardo Sisters and the All-Star Shoe Band in Town Hall in New York, NY and broadcast live on NPR.  The carol, based on a 15th century antiphon, is now available in an SATB a cappella version.

It has been performed by the Vocális Chamber Choir and was performed at the Batlimore Basilica by the Baltimore Choral Arts Society on December 2, 2014.

TEXT:

Hodie Christus natus est: hodie salvator apparuit:

Hodie in terra canunt angeli, laetantur archangeli:

Hodie exultant justi, dicentes: gloria in excelsis Deo: Alleluia.

Today the choirs on earth sing out,

With joy the planet spins.

Plainsong, madrigals, carols we sing

with neighbors, friends and kin.

Plainsong, madrigals, carols we sing

Neighbors, friends join in.

Today on earth we are merry,

Today on earth we sing!

Alleluia, alleluia!

Today the church bells ring.

Rejoice, be joyful!  Oh, be joyful!

Today is Christmas Day!

Rejoice, be joyful!  Oh, be joyful!

It’s Christmas Day today!

In towns and cities across the globe,

Our voices mark this day.

It's Christmas Day, Alleluia!

We all sing Hodie!
