Born in Manila, Philippines, Sidney Marquez Boquiren received his Ph.D. and Master’s degrees in Composition from Duke University and a Bachelor of Music in Composition and Theory from Butler University. After a residency at MacDowell Colony, he has begun composing and performing works that explore a wide range of creative expression within the context of collaborative projects that involve other disciplines such as dance, theatre, art, and literature. As a pianist, vocalist, and improviser, he regularly performs with the Durham-based composer-performer collective pulsoptional. His honors include an award from Gaudeamus New Music Week, a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship with the Penn Humanities Forum at the University of Pennsylvania, and a National Endowment for the Arts Access to Artistic Excellence Fellowship. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Music at Adelphi University.
