Combines a traditional Latin antiphon with an original carol.

Commissioned by “A Prairie Home Companion.”

Composer Caroline Mallonée’s choral music has been performed across the country and abroad.  One of her earliest choral pieces, “The Carolers At My Door,” was named the winner of a Christmas carol contest on “A Prairie Home Companion.” Garrison Keillor called it “simple, graceful and fresh.” In 2012, Keillor commissioned another Christmas piece, “Hodie/Today on Earth.” Her most recent carol, “O Gift of Glorious Sunrise,” was written for the Vocális Chamber Choir and was premiered in Buffalo, NY in 2015.

Mallonée has also composed sacred music in Latin inspired by early polyphony. “Da Pacem Domine” was featured on the Vocális Chamber Choir’s recent appearance at the Cambridge Music Festival (UK). “Dona Nobis Pacem” and “O Lux” have been performed by universities and community choirs across the United States.

Her choral music is available from Boosey & Hawkes and Swirly Music. Click below to listen and to buy copies.

Mallonée’s one-act Christmas opera based on O. Henry’s ironic short story “The Gift of the Magi” is scored for four voices, small choir and chamber orchestra. The piece lasts 35 minutes and would be a welcome addition to any holiday opera program.

And one last song for winter!

This is a short, one-minute canonic song.

Part of the 17-minute “Episodes for a Star-Dripped Night.” Words by the composer.

Fly, snow angels, fly

to the center of the dawn

the morning will blind the stars.
